JOIN US

Those in the Battle Ground service area love its new library! Joining the Friends of the Battle Ground Community Library is a personal statement of support. You would be joining a troop of over 130 members and growing. Members come to us from throughout Clark County and beyond. They show pride in being a card-carrying Friend! Community groups are encouraged to join in order to keep up with library activities. See our levels of membership listed in the membership form "membership"

The Friends offer several levels of membership, but whatever level is chosen, the member will be a full-fledged, card-carrying, voting member of the Friends of the Battle Ground Community Library.

BENEFITS

  • Members receive the Friends’ newsletter four times a year.
  • Members are kept abreast of the latest library events
  • Members are notified of fundraising events sponsored by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation for the benefit of the regional library district.
  • Members make new friends with other library supporters
  • Members are the volunteers who make things happen through decisions at general meetings and volunteering.
  • Members volunteering at book sales have “first pick” at their choice of books

MEMBER SERVICES

Members help out when and where most needed. We advocate for the library on issues that affect the community and use proceeds from our book sales and other fundraisers to:
  • Contribute to the summer reading program for children and teens
  • Promote children’s programs to foster the love of reading
  • Promote adult programs toward community awareness on various topics
  • Enhance the library collection in special areas
  • Promote community support and funding to enhance our new library

VOLUNTEERING

We have many exciting opportunities for volunteers. It’s always fun to work together for a common cause. Besides Friends’ activities, the library has additional need for volunteers at the Battle Ground Community Library.

Here are the nitty-gritty jobs we roll up our sleeves to do together. You can see that we need people with a variety of physical strength. Men are more than welcome!

• Harvest Book Sale — Set-up tasks include hauling books, unpacking boxes, sorting and placing on tables, tidying up rows of books as they disappear and placing new books in the empty spaces. Take-down involves boxing up unsold books, stacking boxes, and general cleanup.

• Ben’s Books Book Room — It is always more welcoming to shoppers if someone is in the bookstore to assist them. Because the bookstore is open during all hours the library is open, there are opportunities throughout the week. Boxing up books occurs as books are donated. Boxed books are then transported to an off-site storage area. Please call Anna Cross, the Friends President, if this interests you (360) 773-6979.

• Receptions are held to give honor to those who have artwork displayed on the SWIFT Gallery walls in the Meyer Community Room. Help is needed during those events.

• Other opportunities are available through the library. Contact the librarian, Jackie Spurlock, for more information. (360) 687-2322 or go to the regional library website Fort Vancouver Library.
